Artist and filmmaker Louis Price in collaboration with Solihull MBC and Arts Council present ‘The House with the Waiting Windows’, a unique library centered project which investigates the possibilities and potential of libraries to be places of artistic development, inspiration and art production.
A library is a magical place where people can pick something from the shelves, disappear into a world of fiction, or travel vicariously around the world through a picture book, or learn in depth about a period of history.
‘House with the Waiting Windows’ is an experimental art project that gives people the opportunity to take out more than just a book from the library. What if you could take out a piece of art from the library?
Inspired by the idea of literary genre, the artwork based its themes upon the most popular genre of the library; thriller and horror fiction. Working closely with four different libraries in Solihull (The Core, Balsall Common, Castle Bromwich and Dickens Heath), and involving local community members, the project was shot in the libraries themselves, and then available to view on Chromebooks which could be taken out from the reception of the libraries, like a book.
Four versions were made, each unique in content to the four different libraries.
Workshops and talks were also held at the libraries to provide context to the piece, and encourage participants to create their own work inspired by their libraries.
